The Database

What does the database aim to achieve?

The database aims to create a tailor-made structure to host a number of artefacts. It also aims to be easily accessed by conservators, trainees as well as other community members through the website. It also aims to present a collection of a variety of cultural heritage related artefacts from the IKONOS European and Mediterranean partners including Morocco, Jordan, Greece and Malta.

Database Information

IKONOS partner LTTI Laboratoire de Transmission et de Traitements d'Images, Morocco) designed and developed a database with the aim of hosting artefact and site details according to the data gathering sheets and guides found in The Cataloguing section in the website.

The data uploaded in the database is limited to Moroccan, Jordanian and Greek artefacts, while Maltese artefacts can be found in the second prototype database, the Fondazzjoni Memorja Kulturali Nazzjonali database structure which was designed by IKONOS ICT team and the Malta Centre for Restoration. (Fondazzjoni Memorja Kulturali Nazzjonali - FMKN, a voluntary foundation set-up to disseminate cultural heritage awareness in the public).

The IKONOS ICT team was only involved in the design of the database structure to host sites and artefacts, without being involved in the actual graphical user interface.

LTTI Morocco on the other hand, has designed the whole system, including graphical presentation.

The IKONOS LTTI Morocco database is hosted on this server, while the FMKN is hosted elsewhere. The IKONOS database has not yet been populated with the Maltese artefacts and sites (also seen on the FMKN system), however, due to time restrictions, this is still under development.
