Sub Project 1
A Common Cultural Heritage Cataloguing Approach
What are the specific objectives of this subproject?
- To select the type of cultural heritage artefacts in the Mediterranean Partner Countries
- To build an inventory of existing databases on heritage artefacts
- To determine the applicability of the existing cataloguing approaches and to identify possible deficiencies which need to be addressed related to the implementation of a cataloguing approach for Mediterranean cultural heritage
- To draw up guidelines for a common approach for the artefact cataloguing and to set standards for the methodology of selection of the artefacts in each partner country.
What methodology has been adopted for the success of this sub-project?
Specific research has been carried out in order to achieve a common cataloguing language in the selection of the cultural heritage artefacts in the Mediterranean partner countries. The specific research has led to the drawing up of guidelines and set procedures on how to construct a data repository for the heritage artefacts.
Criteria were also drawn up, both on the risk assessments of artefacts in need of conservation as well as the didactic value attached to artefacts for training purposes. It was also ensured that the cataloguing standards will respect internationally accepted cataloguing standards while addressing needs for heritage artefacts in the Mediterranean.
