Sub Project 2
Setting up distance learning Nodes - pilot project
What are the specific objectives of this subproject?
- To reach as wide an audience as possible within the partner countries
- To facilitate rapid and efficient communication amongst heritage experts
- To maximise interoperability among the partner countries
- To achieve replicability in the infrastructure set up of each partner connected through the network, enabling their full participation in the projects' activities
What methodology has been adopted for the success of this sub-project?
In order to set up distance learning nodes in each partner countries, which ensure a common two-way system of communication, specific research was conducted on all issues related to the interoperability of the system and identification of the hardware and software specifications for functionality purposes. The Ikonos consortium has identified a cost effective bandwidth pool technology which could be configured and used flexibly by any one or all of the partners in the network simultaneously. The action of Ikonos is to use videoconferencing through this technology for enhanced communication, providing the conservators with the opportunity to share their experience and seek solutions jointly. Such technology outcomes focus mostly on the creation of tele-education and tele-heritage expert networks with the aim of setting up the framework for future collaboration in a bid to find efficient and effective solutions for cultural heritage conservation and restoration.
